I've bought the six month subscription (gr), to see how much I could get done, while i've been off sick. I love trying to sort out what's what, but it's costing me an absolute fortune, with certificates and stuff. Once I've found someone or something, I want to know as much as possible, about that person. I find it really exciting when I can confirm something. So trying not to subscribe to anything else.

Sorry I said Frederick was my grandfather, he is actually my great grandfather. So his dad George would have been my great great grandfather. If you are able to spare me a few more minutes, it would be great if you could look up any info on him and my great great grandmother.

George Chapman c 1819, born in Middlesex, and Elizabeth c 1822 who was born in kent, Woolwich. He was a stonemason in the 1871 census. I do not have Elizabeth's maiden name, or a date of marriage, birth or death, of either. I know it's a big ask but any info would be great.

I'll pm you my home email.
Thank you again,
Sandra

You're welcome, you won't be able to view the image, only the record and it's the same on Ancestry. You can only get the image if you subscribe.

I presume you are using GR records, it's very expensive if you are buying credits so if you need anythng else just let me know.

The 1881 is free on both Family search and Ancestry.

This could be Cath Chapman, daughter in 1891 and there is also an Annie 13 and Edith Chapman 13 in same place, although no Edith on the 1881 family.

My grandfathers side of the family, had a habit of being a couple of years out, so it wouldn't surprise me. I think they had memory problems!!

Thank you again

Hi Christine,

His occupation in the 1891 was a bricklayers Labourer. I haven't been able to view the 1881 census, so your Fred is a possibility, although I have no record of any other children from that marriage. If it was him, what could have happened to the children? Could they have died too, or gone to live with her relatives?

Thanks for looking,

Sandra

If this is him in 1891 birthplace in 1881 is the same and occupation, it's just the birth year out by 2 years.

Hello,

I wonder if anyone is able to look up the 1881 census?

I'm trying to find out to whom my grandfather was married.

His name was Frederick Chapman (1859), the 1871 census states he was born in Kentish Town, Camberwell, Peckham, and gives his age as 12.

In the 1891 Census, he is Lodging in Camberwell, Peckham, and is 32. It also states Wid, on the condition of marriage. I'm assuming that means he was a widower. It also ahows that his future wife was a visitor, at those lodgings.

In the 1901 Census he is married to Ellen, I know Ellen was married previously, and had two children prior to marrying my grandfather.

Now by my calculation that means somewhere between 1877, and 1891, he was married and widowed. I've gone for Camberwell, as it seems the most logical, as he appears to have always lived there.

I've gone through the BDM and come up with these option

My only thought of trying to find out which one it might be, without buying all the marriage certificates, is the 1881 census. Can anyone help, or have another suggestion? His father's name was George, and his mother's name Elizabeth.

thank you, and best wishes,
Sandra
