Don't know if anyone's got any relatives in the Slaidburn/Clitheroe/Newton/Forest of Bowland area of Lancashire but I've been transcribing the gravestones today (it's about 50% complete at present) and have put them on my webpage in case they're any use.

Dear Kate..I have tried the webpage address but Google did not recognise it.
Do I have to put ALL the words in?
I did try katesfamilytree.wetpaint and got your home page but did not then know what to do!!My computer skills are a bit basic to say the least.
I am particularly interested because my Gt Gtgrandfathers were parish clerks at St Andrews and I have been to the Graveyard.
Their name was Slater
Thank you...Eileen in Tasmania

I have family buried in Slaidburn.

I go across quite often (live not too far from there).

The church is one of the most beautiful I have EVER been inside.

Sorry I'm only just getting back to you, Eileen, but I do remember writing a Slater down yesterday - was he a Richard Slater who died 14/12/1858 aged 75, by any chance, parish clerk for 50 years?

Eileen

Eileen Report 16 Sep 2008 00:31

Yes..That would be him
I have a Richard Slater born1784..and Parish Clerk
His father was William..died 1808 married to an Agnes and his father was John.
I have tried the cutting and pasting but still can't access your site. What am I doing wrong?

Kate - many congratulations on your monumentous task! My husband renovated the Heraldry in the Church in Bolton-By-Bowland just down the road from you - are you planning to do that one as well?

Just seen your answer, Hazel - I didn't know that one was there, actually. I will have to put it on my list.

I'm trying to get organised for once in my life - quite often I have to work around when my sister "needs" the car (which seems to be quite often) but I have got Slaidburn about half done and Chatburn about half-done, then I will have to put Bolton-by-Bowland on my list, and also West Bradford too.

Added a few more today - I'm not far off finished now (hopefully the weather will pick up soon so I can be out for longer than half an hour in one go!).

There are now some new additions for the following - Bond, Calverley, Clapham, Fletcher, Harrison, Hayhurst, Lund, Metcalf, Pickover, Scott, Slinger, Standing, Tomlinson, Tommas, Wilson.

I've also started on Waddington church but there are only about 20 names so far.
