Thanks everyone.

Just to clarify the situation. There are 2 series of WW1 service records at the National Archives for other ranks (i.e. non officers) WO364, the so-called Pension records. All of these are on Ancestry. The other series is WO 363, which is MUCH BIGGER. Ancestry just has surnames A-H so far, from this series, but the rest will be added sometime. Records aren't available anywhere else, unless the man was in a Guards Regiment - Grenadier, Coldstream, Irish, Welsh, Scots), in which case they may be available from Wellington Barracks in London.

Could this be his medal rolls info which is on Ancestry? but you may have this

Name: Stanley M Gardener
Regiment or Corps: Royal Engineers, Tr Battalion, Tr, Battalion, 241 Infantry Battalion
Regimental number: 341269, TR/13/80696, 13/55251, 10/3895

In the absence of his service number, but you should have it, which would confirm, not much though on these records, just shows his medal entitlement.

As i understand it all these records are being or have been transferred to Ancestry from the National Archives. But note that only about 40% of all these records survived the bombings during the second world war, that why you see a lot of them looking a bit grim, from water damage etc.
I think i am correct, but someone will tell me if i am wrong, but you cannot find these sort of records now other than on Ancestry and maybe those still at the National Archives.

I really couldn't say. National Archives is the only other place I can think of but I don't really know.

Thanks for looking for me.
Are you aware if anywhere other than ancestry have these records?

Sorry, he's not on the pension records on Ancestry, but I think they are adding to the names all the time.

Hi Kath,

I am looking for Stanley Malcolm Robert Gardner, born 1888.
I have found his service records, but nothing else (also I am struggling to read parts of it - old handwriting, and lots of fading!

Thanks

Ancestry have some names of people who got WW1 pensions, but not all names have been added yet.

What name are you looking for?

Afternoon,

Please forgive my ignorance regarding the subject, but is there anywhere I can go to find out more about a survivor of WW1, other than his service records? i.e. is there some sort of of war pension they receive that would be recorded anywhere? If I google WW1 veteran, all I get is the last surviving men and women, who are now around 110 years old.
Is there any records of people that survived into their later years, but are no longer living?

Any advice on where to go would be appreciated.

Thank you.
