Hi Gerald
I have not been on this site for 3 weeks and I missed your first request for info on this hospital.
Like you, I found out three years ago that an ancestor was a patient at this hospital in the early years of the last century. We found that his death occured in the Lichfield area. The death certificate said that he died at the hospital.
I have found that the the patients records for this hospital are now stored at the Staffordshire Archives Service at Eastgate Street in Stafford.
These are still property of the local NHS and have restricted access.
You can apply to view the records of your ancestor at the above address but it is difficult.
You can find the archives by searching on the web under Staffordshire Archives and searching the online catalogue under hospitals Burntwood.

To gain permission, you need to post an enquiry by letter or email and give as much detail as possible including your relationship to the patient.
They will search and let you know what is available.
It is best to enquire to the email address on the site.

They will give you details on how to apply to view these restricted records.

For my ancestor i found a detailed admission sheet giving details of the family and why he was admitted.
There was also two photgraphs of him and a post mortem report completed after his death.

Be prepared for a long wait as they will tell you that you will need permission off the local health authority to view these records. In my case it took a month to sort it all out. The archives with give you the latest details for this.

Best regards

Andrew.

Just like to say a big thank you folks who gave me info on this hospital, have now traced and received death certificate of gt gt grandfather, been searching for an age before I tried here. Should have given you all a go before and saved myself a lot of money and searching. Now have the task of locating his birth, not an easy feat yet again name is SMITH!!! Will put on a new thread for that one. Thanks again. Gerald
