Tony, if you only have a tree on here (and I would strongly advise you to get another program off line which you can back up to cd and internet) then to get your gedcom file (your family tree stuff) you use the import/export tab and GR will send you the gedcom as an attachment to an email.

Thing is unless you have family tree program on your computer it is useless to you. You could send it on to a rellie who has a program if thats what you intend to do. But it would be better for you to have a program independent of GR to open the gedcom in.

You can get a free one from familysearch.org (who originated the gedcom file) - the Mormon church - or you could buy a family tree program.

Put family tree software into a search on here.

GEDCOM is a format - its like Microsoft WORD...it's the same was writing a document..

You can't say "how do I create a WORD"..you say, how do I create a document ?

So..you create a family tree on any one of a number of software packages, such as Family Tree Maker, Genes Reunited etc etc and the way to move this family tree around is via importing and exporting trees from one person to another, or one system to another, via GEDCOM.

Hope that helps
