My husband's great grandfather was a ship's engineer in the merchant navy and was lost at sea in 1885. Does anyone know how I go about finding anything about him. All I know is that the family lived in Hartlepool. I only know that it was 1885 as his son was born in December of that year. No other info other than his name.
any help would be greatly appreciated
