Vivienne, why not post your grandfather's name on the 'trying to find' section of this site. There are lots of people willing to help.Give as much detail as possible and someone may be able to advise you.

Ancestry is £83.40 unless you can find a deal.
They do have the 1881 census.(free)

If you want BMD's check www.freebmd.org, they have transcribed records up to approx 1925/30. After that you have to check the complete indexes.

What exactly are you searching for between 1901 & 1950? Census information is closed for 100 years so currently the latest census available is 1901. If you mean births/marriages etc then you can search this.

1881 is not on GR as it is free on other sites such as IGI

Is there anywhere I can search from 1901 to the 50's and does anyone know why there is no 1881 cencus?
