YFT magazine was impressive until I noted on the chart that it referred to naval cap ribbons as hat bands as an ex RN sailor I nearly had a fit - lol

This months "Your Family Tree" magazine includes a wall chart showing details (including photos) of all military medals. The reverse has details of military uniforms. Very informative.

The other medal he was awarded would be the Khedives Star awarded to British Troops by the ruler of Egypt to those who had been awarded the Egypt Medal. The Egypt medal would have been awarded with one of three clasps. PM me if you want more. Regards Keith

He should have got a service medal for serving in Cairo andAlexandria if it was in the 1880's because that is when the Sudan wars took place

my Grandfathers WW1 records also show his earlier service and he was awarded
Egyptian medal clasp and another word which I can't decipher in 1885
Bronze Star 1884-86

He was about 17/19 years old during this period Having Joined the army in 1881 when he was 14

After much searching i have found some information on my 2x great grandfather. Mr Joseph Edward Rice born 1872 Carlow Ireland.
I have found 2 records of his service on ancestry . Between 1894 and 1910 serving in Borneo , Cairo and Alexandria . Then in france in 1915. On page 4 of his records of ww1 (1915) it clearly states awarded something for ?i can't read the rest .Can someone please tell me if they can make it out. I am sure he must of pick up some medals for ww1 but i am unable to find a medal card for him. Would he have pick up any for being in cairo and alexandria and Borneo . He was a royal engineer service number 422904.
would there be any other records i can check ?

any help gratefully recieved.

thanks
