My G Grandad's name was Manouvrier. He married in 1893 in Chatham Kent and was a sailor. I assumed he docked in Chatham and then met his bride to be. Have since found out that he used/bought another man's identity to serve in the Australian Navy. Have found him on the Australian Archives. It tells me his height, colour of eyes etc and the ships he sailed on from 1912 -1917. So he used the name of Allen, but he registered his 3 children as Manouvrier, albeit different spellings of it. Cannot find anything else on him. He used Henry, William and Thomas as his name. He served in the navy as Thomas Allen. If anyone has any ideas I would be very grateful.

What sort of information does it have on his marriage certificate ? Does it give a father's name and an approximate age for himself ? Or an address where he was living when he married ?

Also, have you found him on any census in the UK ?

He is Henry on the wedding certificate and his father is listed as Harry and is deceased. He is on the 1901 census as Thomas and Sarah Allen. Stoker in the Royal Navy.
