Army deserter

My father deserted from the Army medical corps based at Southampton some time during the 1920's. He then joined the Royal Fusiliers under a different name and, as I cannot find a birth certificate in what was his former name, I think he also changed his date of birth.
Does anyone know if the Army Records would have details of deserters? It may help me discover his real date of birth as so far I can make no headway on tracing any family history although he was one of 7 children. Unfortunately we do not know the names of any relatives.

You could try: Army Personnel Centre,
Historical Disclosures
Mail Point 400
Kentigam House
65 Brown St
Glasgow G2 8EX
or phone 08456009663.
This info a couple of years old but might work for you.
Good luck

All Army records from 1920 are still held by the MOD, and are not in the public domain,, as NOK you could apply to have these records, they will cost around £30 but they do take sometime to obtain.

Here is the link which explains how you obtain them
