My great great grand parents came over from ireland and both were from Ireland.

Thanks to the 1901 census I was able to work out were he was from, but I still don't know where she was from.

She'd passed on by then. They'd got married here in England, unless of course I have the wrong certificate. They were the only John and Ellen (nee McCarthy) Foley I could find.

I guess I might have to go to Ireland to find out. What do you think?

Sometimes you can work out a rough year. Eg: my greatgrandparents were born in Ireland; they are on the 1851 census with two children, one born Ireland c1847 and one born Birmingham 1850, so they probably came over between 1847 and 1850. Of course, they could have been here before that and the mother went home to have her first child!

Does this mean there is no way of asertaining when ancestors left Ireland and came to England?

I'm trying to trace my great great grandparents.

I am pretty certain that there are no passenger records for trips from Ireland to England. They were part of the same Country back then and there was free passage between the two places, just like hopping on a ferry over to the Isle of Wight these days!

Need help finding what ship my family came to liverpool on, they came from ireland not sure were from, they came over between 1848 & 1851 the surname is May this could also have possibly been mayo or maye
