Thanks Christina, I do have a few possible births for John but I'm unable to confirm which one and I don't know how I can get round this one!!!

Just a possibility, but there's a Jane Arnold (aged 70) on the 1841 census, living in Spitalfields.

There's a possible for John on the IGI. Born 1804, christened 1807 at Spitalfields. Parents Samuel and Jane.

Have looked Docklands Parish Registers, but, unfortunately, there's no baptism for Mary Ann at Whitechapel. What a pity she only put her place of birth on one of the censuses.

Having looked at the family on the 1841 census, I would say the eldest son was Joseph. Jos with an h in the air. Not that that will help you though.

Christina:
Sorrry my mistake, John Arnold and Mary Allington were married at St. Leonards, Shoreditch.
I was under the impression John was born in Spitalfields, Whitechapel.
The children were John 1826 born Bethnal Green, Ann 1834, William 1837, Elizabeth 1844 all born in Shoreditch and Charles 1849 born Bishopsgate. All except Charles were baptised at St. Leonards, Shoreditch, Charles at St Boltolph, Bishopsgate.

Charles is the child I'm following back from.

Pamela:
Thanks for your input, I didn't know there was another St Leonards, but my one is definately the Shoreditch one.

Sorry for delay in getting back, I only manage to get on here at night.

Hello Linda, Did you know that there is another St. Leonard's Church? My g.grandparents married in 1897 and the certificate states The Parish Church, parish of Bromely St.Leonard, County of London. It is in the area of Poplar/Bow. As my g.grandparents were living in Bethnal Green at the time, this might be relevant as you state that your ancestor John was born in that area. Pam

Hi Linda, Who is the child you're following back from? Is it John? Do you know he was born in Bethnal Green? I couldn't see him on the 1851 census, but I saw a John born in Shoreditch. Could this be him? There is no St.Leonard's Church in Spitalfields, but there is one in Shoreditch. I think John and Mary Allington must have got married there.

I have been at a stand still for quite a while now and don't really know what to try next, all ideas will be gratefully received.

I have John Arnold c1801 who married Mary Ann Allington c1805, they married at St Leonards, Spittlefields on 12.02.1827. John was married as a widower and Mary Ann a spinster. I got this information from my local LDS centre and there isn't any other information there on them.

I have managed to find six children the eldest a son also named John who was born 1826 Bethnal Green (not sure if he is from his fathers 1st marriage or just born prior to the 2nd marriage).

I can't find a way to get any further as I can't be sure of John 1801c parents. Any ideas please.
