Which one would you recommend?
Ancestry or Find My Past.
Both are becoming expensive.

Our subscription to Ancestry has just expired and I've cancelled it because they increased it form £66 to £88 and it's going to be £107 from the year after next.

I've had a conversation with my mate Jean Bunting, she's a senior lecturer for the S.O.G and runs the look ups help desk at various family history fairs.

I would go as far as saying that she is one of, if not the, leading experts in the field of research in the country.

She has full access to all of the different databases, she reckons they are all very similar, Find My Past is slightly the better of them all with one exception, the 1851 and the 1901 Census are not yet fully transcribed and they won't be until about March 2009.

Prices are about the same at the moment, about £88 a year.

You pays your money and takes your pick I'm afraid.

This query comes up several times a week now. General consensus is ancestry is the much better resource and its adding more and more all the time. Take a 14 day free trial with ancestry.co.uk

On balance...Ancestry.

It has all censuses and bmd's.

findmypast does not have 1851 or 1901...........although the censuses on the site are searchable by address, which may be of more value to some people.

Thank you for help.
I appreciate your efforts in relying to a question that has been asked several times.
As a member of Genes for the past 8years, I do not come on the boards unless I have to. Too many arguments, hearts broken and members leaving.
As a senior citizen I must decide which one I am going to save for.
A member of Ancestry for the past 5years, I found that both sites were bocoming the same price.
I shall stay with Ancestry.
Once again, thank you for your help.
Regards, Denise-Manchester

Hi Denise. My sub expired in June and I left it for about 3 wks then rang and asked if they had any 'special offers' because I couldn't afford such a hike in price. I was told they usually leave it for about a month before making an offer but would see what they could do. I ended up paying a few pounds LESS than my previous year which was under £70 so give it a try. Yvonne
