Update,
Heard from Watford Reg Office.
Told me first that the name was Straw.
I wrote back and asked if it could be Shaw because of the marriage for 1841.
The reply was that it could be.
I will stick with Shaw and send for their marriage cert.

Sorry Jim,
I have been out for the afternoon and just switched the computer on again.
I have just emailed the Watford registry office and will wait and see what they say.
One of the problems with the Nicholls family is that sometimes it is one L another without the S.
Can you tell me where you got your info for the marriage from. I have tried Free Bmd, mothing. I have ancestry and so once you told me I could find it.
Do you live at Southampton with the name Soton?

Thank you
Sam and Jim for your very quick replies.
I have just been looking for myself on Ancestry. It would be them but it is still hard decipher the name.
Is it possible to tell the Alley where they were living in 1846.
Thanx again

Are you able to scan the cert into your computer? If so, you could email it and I will have a look for you.

I have received a birth cert for

Clara Nicholl n. 19.9. 1846, Watford, Hertfordshire,
daughter of William Nicholl and Mary Nicholl formerly ?

I have tried various angles on the name, Stone, Straw, could begin with a different letter.
If some one has any idea how I can find this out I would be most grateful.
They lived in (M)erling Alley. Even the first letter is not clear.
Thank you for any help,
Sue
