Hi Jim

Sorry had to walk the dog.

Yes I have that as a possible for John Gregory in 1841 .. he dissapears in 1851 and I really mean he dissapears. Have checked when I had my free Ancestry village by village in Shropshire and he is not anywhere.

Am now checking the census' for the other children listed above. Good unusual names !!

Thanks

Melanie

Sorry posted before I saw your reply above.

I had found these children before but when I looked again I couldn't find them so thanks for that !!

I think I have their marriage in 1808 in Farndon which is the next town to Barton, Cheshire where Ann was born which would make her Ann Dawson.

Thanks again

Melanie

Hi Linda

Thanks soo much for looking.

If Ann Gregory was still living in Wollerton area when she died then the best match is Mar sector 1860 (6a 558)..Market Drayton.

John Gregory would be Dec sector 1852 (6a 484)..Market Drayton.

Thanks

Melanie

Hi Linda

No they have no children with them on either of the census' but on the 1851 there is Richard Gregory aged 40 living next door with his family.

My instincts say this is them but also families move about quite a bit and I don't want to jump to conclusions.

I have good possible deaths for the Richard and Ann on the census in Wollerton and was thinking of ordering the last one who died with the hope of one of their children registering the death.

This is the first time I have gone previous to certificates and don't want to trace the wrong line.

Thanks very much for you advice.

Why do you not think they could be the parents? 44 is not too old for the mother.
I have lots of examples of older mothers in my tree. For instance one of my main line ancestors was born in 1811 and she had fifteen children from 1828 to 1855. She would have been 44 as well when the last one was born.

I found the censuses and they are living alone, so that is of no help.

Have the following confirmed from Shropshire Records Office:

John Gregory .. bap 26.06.1825 in Hodnet .. born Wollerton.

Parents living in Wollerton, Salop.
Richard Gregory (Labourer on John's marriage cert)
Ann Gregory

I have a Richard and Ann Gregory living in Wollerton on the 1841 and 1851 census but they would have been 51 and 44 when John was born. I also have other Richard and Ann's living elsewhere in Shropshire. John Gregory is not living with any of them.

How do I confirm which are the correct parents ?

Thanks

Melanie
