If you can find the name of the boat builder you may well find information in sites devoted to canals and the company

Trade directories are a bit like our yellow pages, you wont get a lot of info from them apart from the address.

You could try emailing Southwark archives who are exceptionally good at helping people with local queries.

My ancestors were Barge Builders originally from Sudbury, Suffolk. I have now made a connection with Southwark, London, where my 3x Great Grandfather's brother lived at time of 1851 & 1861 Censuses - occupation Barge Builder.

I would like to be able to find him in a trade directory - he employed 5 men, so it is possible he had a firm that would be listed.

Can you help please.
