Thanks Gwyn, didnt know that, will try and find out, although will have to wait until I can visit the area (unless a church will still hold the records and tell me).
The archives / records centre dont answer queries - have tried previously for something else.

Was your GGaunt baptised?
Her father may be named in the register.

Although an unmarried father had to be present at the birth registration for his name to be recorded, there seems to have been no such requirement at a child's baptism.

So she was registered in her mother's name?
How do you know he is not her father?

Fathers name is missing on the birth cert.
mother is correct.

Are you saying that there is a different father on birth cert.?
Or is it blank?
Is it the correct cert.?

Was worried that would be the case...
She was born 9 months before they married, so grew up her entire life with him as her father figure.
Thanks

I would think it highly unlikely that any 'official' procedures were carried out.

She probably thought this man was her father............if no-one had told her otherwise.

Afternoon all,
I have just received the b cert for my gg aunt, and as I suspected, she is not the daughter of my gg grandfather.
However (awaiting confirmation - delivery of m cert), by the time she married aged 19, she had taken on his name. Is there anywhere I can find out if this was done officially?

Thank you.
