Hi All

Could anyone give me some advice on finding a marriage before 1837. I dont know what parish it would be in, therefore can't go to those Church records. Any suggestions??

Thanks! x

You should be going backwards. So you have an idea of when the couple married from the age of the eldest child (doesnt always work that way, but rule of thumb)

Give us their names/area and likely time

find them on the 1841 census first if poss...
this will give you an idea of where to look.
1841 census says yes or no to born in the county in which you find them.

Post some names and possible areas and we'll help you?

Hiya

He is William Bunting born c1802 in Stockport, she is Martha born around the same time, where differs depending on census...
I will have a look on IGI!
Thanks!

Dear Juliana

Lots of Buntings on the Lancs OPC site -
www.lan_opc.org.uk. Couldn't see William and Martha but hopefully you might find some of yours.

best of luck

Try http://www.freereg.org.uk/cgi/Search.pl as they have more info on there than a few months ago for a lot of areas.
