I am certain that my Nan said his name was Peter, but i may have heard wrong i think i will have to give her a ring this evening and check with her. i know she said that he died quite young before she was born in the early 1920's.

Any reason why you haven't bought the birth cert to get his parent's names?

Births Dec 1899
Swann William Joseph Bosmere 4a 912

The only Peter born before this was in Lancashire in 1889 which doesn't make too much sense.

If you know the names of children try searching for them as that is how I have found some of mine. Or search for the spouse rather than the head as in the case of one of mine the head was having a holiday at Her Majesty's pleasure so his wife was the one I found the census entry by. You could also try Swan as names were mistranscribed or spelt.

I have a family where the head is 50 and his niece is 81. On reading the census image it was actually nurse. So try anything no matter how silly it might appear to be.

Good luck.

Just to add an additional explanation....In addition to David's.

Enumerators were only required to collect the census schedules they had previously delivered to each household....Each householder was required to complete their own schedule.

If, when collected, the enumerator noted ommissions or total non completion then they were then required to obtain the missing information.

This could be by asking specific questions for missing info or, in the event of there being no one literate in the household, completing the entire schedule on the householders behalf.

The schedules were then copied by the enumerator into the sheets we now see through sites such as Ancestry.

So the possibilities for mis recording abound!

I have been tryin to find my great grandfather and my great grandfather on the 1901 census but none of them are on there is there any reason why they wouldn't be on there? they're details are:

William Swann born 1899 in Bosmere, Suffolk his father was Frederick Swann who we think was born around 1866 he was married to an Elizabeth born 1873-1919 we think they also had another son called Peter born 1896 any help would be great :)
