MMN does not appear on the GRO index until after 1911..............the last available census is 1901

Bear in mind that the census records the birthplace.......the GRO index gives only the registration district.........so it would pay to cross-refer with genuki to find the full list of places covered by any given district.

Sometimes if they married late 1800's and early 1900's they would have had children hopefully and its possible to see the mothers maiden name when looking at the births, This has helped me narrow down a match,

Christine.
Can you give details so we can help?
Some areas give the name of the spouse .

Thank you both so much, I have narrowed it down to 3 possible men, now I just have to find them in the census and see if my relative is with them!
Thank you once again.

Keeley.

not sure what you mean, but if you have the year, quarter, volume and page for a GRO index reference then you can search using these on freebmd - you don't need to enter the name of the person. The search will return all names on that page (usually 4 per page, but up to 8 per page on the earlier records). Of course, this assumes that the quarter you are searching for has been transcribed on freebmd (currently up to the 1920's).

Not stupid but its not possible !! if you have the GRO ref then you need to buy the cert for all the info.
You can,in the case of a marriage .look at the next census after the marriage to see if you can locate both spouses, thus eliminating the cross match. ie if the is two males & two females then matching up the christian name on the next census can give you idea which of the two married
