Hi Rose,

Kathleen is right, 12 for girls 14 for boys, i have seen an 18 year old girl a widow married for the second time.

Don't know about Ireland, but in England and Wales the age at which you could get married with parental consent was 12 for girls and 14 for boys right up until 1927 (although very few actually did marry this young).

I have found a couple on the 1911 irish census for Dublin I know to be my husband's great grandparents. It states they were both 35 and had been married for 20 years.

Was it common for couples to marry at 15. This would have been in Dublin c.1891. I wondered if anyone else had come across people marrying so young.
