Hello Graeme

I have just been on the free trail of British Newspapers and it is great. And I saw information on Victuallers.
I don't know how long this current free trial will last but it is certainly available right now.

I have managed to contact the Hertford LVA and they have been very helpful. Unfortunately their records dating back any length of time have gone missing.

They have put me in contact with a local historian and I await a reply from him.

the LVA secretary can be contacted via [email protected]

Ancestor was William NEWTON and was based in Bishop Stortford, Hertfordshire from about 1886 to 1890 in a pub called The Grapes Inn. Then ran a pub called The Prince Albert in Hertford between 1890 and 1895

The records office local to your ancestors pub may have records if they have been deposited.

I know the above association (or one very similar in name used to exist and was based in the City of London. Does anyone know if they have a searchable database of members and if so how far back does it go? I have an ancestor who was in the licensing trade in the 1880s and 1890s
