Well, although I have used National Archives to get naval records didn't know that about annuities will have to check it out. Could they be widows of naval servicemen I wonder? Perhaps thats why I cannot find a record of Emmas father.

Sue Report 6 Oct 2008 15:38

There are some Gidley annuities on the National Archives site!

Do not need to look it up there it is. Thanks Jeanette Coincidence.. Dymond / Symond, and how to sort it?

Dumpling

Dumpling Report 6 Oct 2008 15:32

I guess that Donner could be mistaken for Dymond and it could be Emma sister. There is a another census with a Symons ? child too . I will have to check it out. Its all good leads

Thanks Sue, I know naval pensioners of the time were called by a similar name but cannot think who would give women of that time period an annuity, again i would be grateful for any suggestions .

On a 1851 census return I found my GGgrandparents and possibly another 2 generation too but cannot work it out so if someone likes a puzzle...................
John Phillips Blacksmith. Salem Street Plymouth
Emma Phillips nee Gidley (and 2 children).
On the line above is Ann Gidley. Head, (who I think is Emma's mother) and Ann Donner, mother? At first I thought I had another generation but her age is 25 , could she be a married sister to Emma . Cannot work out what is under employment is either . Annuants? Any help gratefully received
