Donna

For the last 20 years I have been a marker of exam papers for an international body. I have got used to a wide variety of hand-writing and language issues, and reckon I can interpret most written words. If you want some help, give me an email and attach the document. I am [email protected] My hubby is also a marker with similar experience.

Sometimes you probably have to make your best guess, but the idea of highlighting it in a colour is a good one.

Try me out.

I might be useless, but will give it a whirl.

You're welcome Donna

There's also some other stuff in there that's quite useful like Abbreviations and the Chapman County Codes. If you haven't done it already I would also recommend downloading Genie from the site too

Hi Donna

Have you printed off SSCENS Field Descriptions? Columns H,K, P, S and V should be filled with an X if you have any queries about what is written and then make a note in column Y as to what the query is

You could just highlight the relevant cell in Excel with a colour so you know you've missed a bit and then carry on - do what you can until you hear back from your chap. You may find that as you get on a bit the writing will become more familiar so that when you go back to the bits you missed earlier it will make a bit more sense.

hello all,

I have just started transcribing for FreeCen after receiving my microfiche today.

I am using excel spreadsheet program and seem to be getting on ok.

My problem is, some of the handwriting I cannot read, how do I transcribe it if I do not know what it says??

I have contacted my co ordinator but he lives in australia and it may take a while for him to answer and I really want to get cracking !!!

Anyone's help is much appreciated !

Thanks !
