You can see what info is contained on a cert at:
http://www.freebmd.org.uk/Certificates.html
You want the standard (i.e., the full) certificate - you do NOT want a short certificate.

You can order a cert from either the GRO or from the Manchester RO. Both accept credit cards, cheques and postal orders.

If you order online from the GRO, the cost is 7 GBP (which includes postage of cert). (You want the standard service - priority service is real pricey.) You will have to register on the site first, and have a credit card handy. If you order by post or phone from the GRO, it costs 8.50 GBP

Assuming you order online, you just need to give your dad's name, say you've got a GRO reference when they ask, give the date (i.e., 1965 and Jan-Feb-Mar quarter) and the district=Manchester, the vol #=10e and the page #=694, then sit back and wait a week or more.

Betty, his marr cert won't help with his mum's name - they're from Manchester, not Dundee.

Get your dads birth or marriage certificate it will tell you the names.

A copy of your Dads birth certificate will give you the details you want. Then you can trace the marriage of his parents. Irene

Trying to trace my side of the family (Winson's) but my dad doesn't really remember his mums real name, from what he thinks he remembers it's Patricia Corbett, who married his dad...James Winson...apparently we've got a lot of family in Manchester? Anyone any ideas how to go forward...? message me if you do...thank you
