Thanks Ron,
Given me a lot to look at on it this evening.

Is is a very good program for trees, I agree. I just need to learn my way around a bit more and learn its true capabilities / shortcuts.

You can alter options available when designing a tree and these options can be saved but there are limitations as to what features you may want and what the program allows you to save.

BUT, if the basic data has changed then the saved chart will be no good because that's what it is, a saved chart and it will not contain any new data that has been added to the file.

The tree lays out the tree in a horizontal format, sometimes in order to do this various marriages are broken off and placed elsewhere on the tree and are joined with a dotted line, sometimes this is done for no apparent reason, you can highlight those distant boxes and drag them back to where they should be and the double marriage lines will usually automatically appear, they don't always and sometimes you have to move ALL the boxes above or below that marriage then slightly move one of the boxes and the marriage lines will appear you then have to slide back into position the boxes that you moved. Sometimes you have to move half of the tree to make the marriage lines appear.

The children are linked to the bloodline, that is to say that the parent who has ancestors will have the children attached to them if the parent has no ancestors then the children are linked to the parent who has ancestors. It appears that Genbox will add the children of a couple to the mother if both parents have ancestors.

There is a very good mailing list for Genbox users seeking help with the program and you can find that list here.

All in all I don't think you can beat Genbox for designing trees, I've been designing trees with it every day since it came out 5 or 6 years ago so I am more than aware of it's capabilities compared to most users.

Thanks Carol

Is there any way of doing this through the settings?
The reason I ask is that I am creating a 'proven tree' that only has certificate confirmed (etc) information on, and as it grows, I re-print it, and stick it on the wall to work from etc etc. And if I could help it, would rather not spend a long time making it look right each time before I print it.

Also, is there any way of stopping it linking spouses with dotted lines and adding the children to the fathers file? It takes away the double 'marriage lines' after you move the apart a little, and some they have to be practically touching fo the marriage lines to appear. Its not always possible to have couples right next to each other in the tree, especially when there are siblings / a couple of generations of ancestors to take into account.

I hope this makes sense.

You can hightlight any boxes or branches and move them anywhere you like, just draw a box with the mouse around the boxes that you want to move and drag them.

Evening,
I have just bought Genbox for the charting capabilities on various recommendations on here, and on the surface of it, am very impressed, but need a little help.

I am trying to print an 'everyone' tree, and for some reason that I can understand, its putting both my grandfathers families on the lefthand side and stretching the maternal side of my tree to the right, so that both sides overlap each other, and looking really messy.

Is there any settings that I can use to keep the paternal on the left, and the maternal on the right.

Previously I have been using genopro to draw and print trees like this, which is fine, but the distinct lack of detail that you can view on the printout is a problem, hence me switching to genbox, just need to get it to work now...

Thanks
