Yes, Sue, I also delete all other addies before forwarding to other people, but I shouldnt have to delete so many. I think I will have to try to diplomatically suggest to my contacts that they use BCC in future.

If you are on AOL email, in the Copy To box put brackets around the various addresses and separate with comma

eg

(addy1, addy2, addy3)

The main reason this happens is ignorance or laziness. They just hit the forward button and add their own addresses and so it goes on.... and on.

I often get joke emails forwarded to me that not only contain loads of email addresses but also names, addresses and phone numbers!! This is because some people have those as their automatic signature in emails.

I always "clean" emails before I forward them on - in other words I detete all the previous email addresses etc contained in the body of the email. I also check the bottom of the email for any hidden items that may be tracking devices.

If one of my contacts repeadely sends me emails containing loads of addresses etc in the body of the email, then I will usually write to them and explain how to do things properly.

Christine, I am on hotmail too. Click on BCC before putting in the email addies. They will then not be visible to everybody.

Christine,

"Blind Carbon Copy"

Instead of using CC, you need to use BCC.

I agree.

I sometimes get a mail which has been forwarded numerous times, including dozens of email addresses. Maybe some people are just ignorant of the danger of spreading these 'joke' mails around, giving every evil person the opportunity to access our addresses.

I often delete without opening, but the damage has already been done.

Why is it that so many people send an email to lots of people without using the BCC option? I receive a lot of emails with the email addies of about 20 people on them. They are people I do not know. If the sender used BCC I would not be able to see all those other addies. It bothers me to think that there are dozens if not hundreds of strangers who can see my email addy.

PLEASE use BCC when sending an email to lots of people.
