The only thing I use the new search is to look for Public Trees which may have matches with my tree.

Hi,

I have to say I don't like it either. It seems to me that the new search only uses the free bmds to gain results and not the complete index. It's definitely not an improvement in my eyes.

I think the old search seems to have already changed. I didn't like how the results were displayed last night - no longer divided up into the categories, like they're trying to force people onto the new search. I did fill in the feedback on the new search and described the above issue. I'm glad I'm not the only one who struggles with it.

I am glad I am not on my own in disliking the new search facility. I can't get on with it at all.

I only hope they don't get rid of the old search in favour of the new one.

Summer,

I searched with the new facility and just couldn't find a marriage someone had found for me. Switched and it came up immediately using the old search method.

Hi SS, I never use the new search facility, much prefer the old one.

I may be a bit behind on this, but have only been trying the search out for about 3 weeks.

Tonight I discovered that several things I searched for weren't coming up. I got less specific on terms as we know how things get mistranscribed but when I got no result at all for "Carter" born "1840-1845" in Bristol (except a handful of trees). I got a little bit suspicious, because really what are the chances? Especially when I had already seen one such Carter when I'd found someone else earlier. Incidentally, I had the same problem with Curtis (and there are probably loads more).

And so, curious as I was, I tried it on the old search and found the person that I was looking for on the first try.

So, the TIP is, that just because what you want hasn't come up in the new search doesn't mean it's not there with the old.
