Advice Please - William Henry Baker and Julia Sten

I am stuck and not sure where to turn or how to find out about my great grandparents. My nans birth certificate shows William Henry Baker as father and Julia Stennings as mother, my nan was born in West Ham in 1914. Apparantly William was married before Julia, rumour has it that between 2 marriages William had 13 children, I cannot find a marriage certificate for William and Julia's marriage and therefore cannot trace birth certificate. Has anyone got any ideas please.

Thanks, Gail

Is it possible that "Stennings" is an error? I am supposing your nan was the Hilda Baker born 1914 with a mother called Stennings.

On FreeBMD there are two Baker children - Ethel M (Mar qtr 1917) and Frank P (Dec qtr 1912) born in West Ham registration district to a mother named Stenning.

I wonder if Julia and William lived together as a couple but never married?

There are 2 births of Bakers with mother's maiden name Stennings:
Hilda, Sep. Q 1914, West Ham. (4a 481)
Ivy, Dec. Q 1918, West Ham. (4a 349)

What was the name of your nan and if she is deceased it will show her date of birth on her death details depending on what date she died. Irene

Thanks everyone,

Frank P was my nans older brother, Ivy is a possibility, but not sure. I haven't been able to fins a Julia Stennings at all, it hadn't occured to me that they weren't married mum always referred to her nan as nanny Baker. William was alledgedly a bit older than Julia. I will have a search for their death certificates and see what I can find.

Thanks for all your help
