I have just come across a ggg grandmother with a name that ive neva heard before.....her name was Sabina.......and i know its definetly not Sabrina because ive got her death cert.....Has anyone else eva come across this name before and does anybody know where the name comes from?

It is a region in Italy, also the name of a Roman emperors wife.

I have several Sabinas in the Yorkshire branch of my family

The origin of the name Sabina is Latin and comes from Sabine which means "Of Ancient Italian Culture".

I have a Sabina too. Actually Annie Sabina Dobson b 1894 in Baydon, Wilts.
The name has not appeared in my tree again.

Sophie I think it's less likely to be Italian & more likely to be someone whose mother/grandmother was a Sabina.

Or a family that were into biblical names.

Well it does come from her grandmothers name sabina...both with same names...but was curiose as into where the names comes from?

Ahh so it comes from Italy then....with an unusual name like dat wud itbe possible that maybe if i ws t go back further in her line there might be an italian ancestor? She was from ireland btw accordng to the censuses
