Hi
I have a scenario.
May be she didnt die at all.
Maybe they parted company and he used the 7 yr law if a person disappears or has no contact then you could declare them dead.
My grandfather parted from my grandmother very soon after my father was born.in 1925
He remarried in 1944 stating he was a widow this was untrue. and again in 1959.
My grandmother didnt die until 1977.
Unless he got divorced from my grandmother which was virtually unheard of remarried between 1925 and 1943 and his new wife died then he would indeed be a widow.
Expect the unexpected in this hobby.
Who reported the death of the Sarah ann Oldham whos death cert you got.
A death record is only as good as the person who reports it.
You might know some one all their lives by their middle name and report their death accordingly, unknowing that they dropped their first registered birth name by choice.
My father is a prime example I have always known him as Robert but his birth says James Robert.
Thats why it took me so long to find his birth record.

Have you been searching the complete index and not just FreeBMD? Have you considered the possibility that the person could have died away from their home town and could therefore be registered in a district other than the one you were especting?
