Wow this is very helpful it tells me the facts that she would have been able to get a divorce re the adultery and abandonment.

It mentions the family records centre but the website seems closed. Do you know where I might be able to look up Jessie Florence White divorce to see if she claimed one?

"Until 1923 a wife had to prove her husband’s adultery, along with some other offence, to gain a divorce. This could be cruelty, or desertion for two years or more. "

I think there is a divorce index at the National Archives.

My great grandmother Jessie Florence Shuttleworth (nee Evans) married Ebenezer White in 1914 and he then ran off a year later to Canada.

She would have been entitled to a divorce as he never returned. Can anyone tell me how I look up a divorce?

How long did it take before she would have been able to claim abandonment or whatever it was back then?

Any help hugely useful.
