I did mine online there and then. I don't know if you still can do this as it was last year, but it said if you don't have one just set it up, which I did, maybe you could try again and see if that is still available. It is a good idea and extra protection.

Thank you, life would be sooooo much easier if your banks told you about these changes

This is an added protection by your credit card provider.
you set up a password once and then when ever you purchase a certificate from the GRO a pop up appears asking for your password before the transaction can take place .

its safer

HSBC bank do something like this. They give you a security number for using online.

Thanks Liz, I thought there may be a thread already but I was offline for a while with a deceased computer

The protection thing looks to be ok - I'll try and nudge up my thread from a couple of weeks ago.

I've just tried to order a cert from the GRO using my NatWest Maestro card but towards the end of my order I got a new screen up sying that NatWest would protect my card & asking for my details. Quick exit out & decided to order through Ancestry Shop.

Went to Ancestry & pressed order birth cert only to find that they want £19.99 for a cert which will be delivered upto 16 working days.

OK I'm not a newbie, I've not been caught by this charge but how many people on here will be?

NEVER pay more than £7 for a cert
