I had 2 policemen, one in Derby and one in Birmingham. Derby RO had hardly anything on the one serving in Derby, but Birminham had a police museum that gave me a lot on the one that served there.

Try googling the area he served in, to see whats available

Thought this may be of help to someone.

Essex Police Archives 0300 333 4444 not including Colchester which is a separate district

For Metropoliton Police Records (covering London) email all the info you have to [email protected] but currently there is a three to four month waiting list before you'll get a reply.

Think you need to narrow him down to an area/county. For example PC123 in Staffordshire would not be the same as PC123 in Devon.
Once you know where he served contact force headquarters who might be able to help

I dont know about later years, but I was searching for a policeman in 1891, in Cardiff and I emailed the Records Office (if I remember correctly) and they searched for him for me (not with any luck I might add).

I assume that the County would hold the records, rather than a central records office for police officers.

I think that Police Forces are managed on a county basis rather than nationally.

Good luck.

How can you track down a police constable from the 1940's, is there a central record or might it be county records any ideas anyone.
