I would think it is highly likely, especially as Tom was only a little boy when his mum remarried.

On the 1871 census Albion Bowden aged 33,brn Bristol, is living with his wife Ellen 31, brn Birmingham, His Mother Fanny 71, Bristol, and his children Ellen 13 and Tom 1, both brn Birmingham and all living in Birmingham. Later that year Albion passes over, and in 1875 Ellen weds Joseph Firkins, a widower. After this marriage I can find no trace of Ellen jnr, or Tom but on the 1881 census I have found a Thomas Firkins living with his mother Ellen and Father Josh, this is Joesph. I cannot find a birth for a Thomas Firkins brn abt 1870, what are the odds that Thomas Bowden has morphed into Thomas Firkins?
