How does one go about tracing a ancestor born round about 1780 in Ireland? Not sure which county but his wife was born in Dublin so I take it he must come from that area. Basing that on people not travelling very far from home in those days.

Early Parish Records in Ireland..at least the ones I have obtained don't give that much detail.

I suspect it all depends on each individual parish as to what is recorded...so don't build you hopes up on finding anything definite.

Some Marriage records in Co. Dublin that I have only quote a marriage date, bride and groom's names and Witnesses.....1843.

By 1859 - 1883 they quote both parents names for the bride and groom and the place where they were living, no exact address though.
