Jo, I think it must be the same Pippins farm....... I can`t imagine 2 farms in the same area having the same name can you?....... in the 1851 census my 4xgr grandfather was the farmer there of 55 acres......

I will get up there one day and take a look around the area, i have a lot of ancestors all born/married /died and lived in Cranbrook, Brenchley, Frittenden, Pembury, East Peckham which i know are all around the Tonbridge area.

Thanks for your help.

Nicky

Pippins Farm is in Pembury, on the outskirts, on the road to Capel. It is now a fruit farm with farm shop.
They sell cider as well. I actually prefer the farm shop across the road - Downingbury.

Obviously in 1841/51, there were very few houses, as opposed to now, so they could well come in the village of Capel

Hope that helps
Regards
Jo

Frazzled ...thank thats the info I already had.

Josephine.....so it is possible probably that someone may put their place of birth as Pembury even though they were born in Capels.

Seeing as you know the area, could I ask do you know Pippins Farm?........ my ancestors are at that address in 1841 and 1851, where it is down as being in Capel.
But when you google it, pippins farm comes up as Pembury, would you know if this is the same place?

thanks for your help

Hello Nicky

I live in Tun. Wells. Capel is about 5 miles from Tun. Wells, included in the hamlet of Five Oak Green. About 3 miles from Pembury.
Its also about 4/5 miles from Tonbridge

Found this for you Nicky

Capel fell within the Hundred of Washlingstone. Its 19th century Registration District & Poor Law Union was Tonbridge.
Probate Jurisdiction was Rochester to 1845, PCC 1846-57.

Capel included the hamlet of Five Oak Green.
Records for Capel and Tudeley are much intermixed.

Would anyone know if you were born Capels area of kent, it could also come under Pembury...... I have looked at maps, and googled etc, but unless you live locally its hard to tell wether they would be considered the same area.
