probably a well asked question but are the death records of women by their married name or their maiden name?

I know a woman who has been married - and divorced - twice. She has now reverted to using her maiden name.......so when she dies, presumably it will be registered under her maiden name, with a lot of additional details having to be added to the cert, to explain the anomaly!

Last week I ordered online a death certificate for a married woman, who we thought to be widow surname N.
On Saturday we received a death certificate for her,...surname B.

It is the right person and in the name section it says, formerly known as.( first names)....N

I didn't know that other names on the certificates could be searched after 1969, although I knew there is a section where any other surnames are mentioned when registering a death.

We subsequently found the record for a later marriage to Mr B.
