i have hit a brick wall with the 1841 census, i am looking for a david taylor, b,1832, salford lancashire, father david taylor, taken from his marraige cert, but there are two of them in the census both same age and fathers david, how do i decide which one i want.

Are there any names of brothers and sisters with either family that you recognise?...... to be back in 1841 you must have traced David back from a later census..... work from the family that you know is definetly him in 1851 or 1861 and then try and match them.

i have him in the 1861 census but he is married so no brothers or sisters, i cannot find him in the 1851 census

His father was a cartman, witnesses are, Rachel Woodmancy & Thomas Smith.

my problem was there is another david taylor 9 his father also david in the 1841 census for salford, and i have no way of determining which one i want.

Another from 1841. Unfortunately no occupation for David, but he seems to have a sister Rachel.

Have you traced Fanny Collinsons family? was her mother named Eliza?..... If so I would probably be more inclined to lean towards the David Taylor with wife Margaret, as it was not uncommon for children to name thier 1st daughters and sons after, if not themselves, then their parents names ...... See the eldest child is Margaret eliza, obvoiusly not conclusive, but may be a indication of where to start.

yes thats them in 1861 interesting point about naming about the daughters but as you say not conclusive. the other problem i have is where is david taylor b1832 in the 1851 census
