Belgian birth certificate???

I've recently contacted Switzerland re getting a copy of a birth certificate and less than a week later it arrived completely free of charge. They were fantastic despite my terrible French.

But does anyone know who I need to contact to find a Belgian birth certificate? I don't know anything except the name I'm looking for which fortunately is a long one, despite the common surname. Esther Blanche Charlotte Beckman.

Virginia,

Have you tried Cyndi's List?

Hi Peter

I have but because they're all divided by Provinces and in different languages I don't even know where to start.

I'm looking for a central archive ... or advice about deciding which archive to start with ... or someone who can help me look!

I have no idea where she was from unfortunately (under place of birth it just says Belgium). I know that she spoke French so I've written to the Flanders Provinces today to see what happens!

Thanks anyway.

Peter

Hi Virginia,

Forgive a pretty obvious question but have you been able to find her in all possible censuses? It may be that one has a more precise place of birth.

Incidentally what is the time period you are interested in, and where does your present information derive from?
