The 1911 census of Canada shows that Edward Cartwright, aged 43, his Wife Sarah, 38, Daughter Alice 10 and Brother Thomas aged 38 arrived in Canada in 1908.

How can I find out more about this event such as where they left from and where they arrived?

Any help would be much appreciated.

You know, Lorraine, I thought about looking for soldiers of WW1 but decided no, he's too old!

Thank you, Margaret, Lisa and Lorraine for the very useful replies. I was looking for their immigration records and from what you have given me I now know that Edward went first in 1906 followed by Sarah and Daughter Alice in 1907. which is very useful.

Lisa J, I am not sure what else might be available but anything about their time in Canada would be appreciated. I know that Edward died a Widower in England in Dec 1923, so obviously Sarah died before then.

If it's not asking too much could I ask if you can find immigration record for Thomas, although I suspect he probably went with Edward.?

You will get an unclear image. Click on it once, and then again to enlarge, to get the clearer version.

In his case, it seems he had previously been medically discharged. On the reverse of the form, the medical certificates are not completed, so he may not have re-enrolled after all.

Do you know if Thomas or Alice stayed in Canada?

Lisa, with regards to Alice she narried someone called Thomas Kniffen and went to live in the States, Detroit I think.

I know nothing of Thomas, I only know of Alice(above) and that Sarah died in Canada, before 1923 when Edward died a Widower back in England.
