Dennis - it looks a useful site, and one where Nannie may find some relevant information.

However, this thread is from 2008 and Nannie may not check it any more. Click on her name and send a PM. If she is still using the same email address, she will receive notification of the message and be able to log in.

You can check if the message has been read by looking at your 'outbox. If the envelope is purple she hasn't read it. It will be white if she has. :-)

You might find something in the local paper to where he lived at the time - or where his family lived. They may have published a bit of info about what happened.

Many thanks to everyone who took time to reply. Sorry I didn't get back to you but I've had my 18mth old granddaughter for the weekend so had no chance. You were right Sue , it was 1917, my mistake. Will start looking now. Once again THANKS

You could look at the war diary of his battalion for the months of Apr-May 1917. It's probably at Kew

George_of_Westbury Report 7 Nov 2008 22:21

As you know his regiment and date of death and location etc it is a question of trawling through the battles that took place around that time with the regiment he was involved in.

It is not a east task and some of it will be guesswork.

But here is a link to the battles of the the 1st world war and what regiments were taking part, but it is difficult to sort out who was where and when.

also try Yorks and Lancs regimental museum also Wilkepedia google
Hope this helps
