My great x3 granddad was in the 1st battalion, Hampshire regiment in WW1. On a sheet of paper I have regarding info about him during the war it says under supplementary notes:24181, royal Warwickshire regiment.
Can anyone please tell me exactly what this means? Would it be that he was previously in the army? As far I am aware he never was.
Any info would be gratefully received.

Keeley :)

He could have changed regiments. When a regiment lost a lot of men in action (which lots did) then men were moved around between the different regiments.

My husbands father was in both the Royal Artillery and the Royal Engineers.
