Marriage in Scotland 1838

Does anybody know how old a couple had to be in 1838 in scotland before they could get married.

Before 1929, Scots law followed Roman law in allowing a girl to marry at twelve years of age and a boy at fourteen, without any requirement for parental consent, this however, was uncommon.

Tiddly is correct - in 1855 (the first year of civil registration) there was only 1 14 y old marrying (a male) and only 41 15 y olds (1 male) out of nearly 20000 marrs (age not stated for 98 males and 172 females).

The current minimum age is 16. Parental consent was not needed then or now for any age.
