Please can i ask all to observe the 2 minutes silence today. Most of us will have at least 1 ancestor that this affects, Too many people seem to think this is pointless. Personally I think it is important.

These people died so that we could be free. This could be WW1 90 years ago- it could be a few days ago- I ask you to take a couple of moments to think of them

Thank you

The Call Centre I manage will close at 10.59 to ensure all staff can observe the 2 minute silence. Callers will get a message telling them the centre is closed to enable the silence to be observed.
Customers on calls will be advised that they are being placed on hold.

The really sad thing is past experience tells me that at least one customer will complain about being placed on hold

I used to work in Lloyds of London and it was a very busy noisey place but every year they observed the 2 mins silence when everything stopped and a bugle player played the last post. It moved me to tears every year.
My husband and I respect the 2 minutes silence every year. Such a sad time for so many families.

I was brought up to respect the silence, to honour those whose sacrifice gave us the chance of freedom.

May the custom never die out.....................

In our town, a cannon is fired on 11/11 to mark the start and end of the two minutes, so all can observe it.

Did anyone hear Robert Hardy read this poem on Songs of Praise last Sunday?

IT IS THE SOLDIER
It is the Soldier, not the minister
Who has given us freedom of religion

It is the Soldier, not the reporter
Who has given us freedom of the press

It is the Soldier, not the poet
Who has given us freedom of speech

It is the Soldier, not the campus organizer
Who has given us freedom to protest

It is the Soldier, not the lawyer
Who has given us the right to a fair trial

It is the Soldier, not the politician
Who has given us the right to vote

It is the Solier who salutes the flag
Who serves beneath the flag
And whose coffin is draped by the flag
Who allows the protester to burn the flag

Elizabeth

Didn't see Songs of Praise but it still brought a tear to my eye.

RIP to all those brave souls that through their actions made sure I am here today.
