Could someone advise please about Gallantry Medals, First World War. My Uncle has asked if I could find out which medals his father was awarded in the First World War. I have been able to find the campaign medals for him on ancestry but I don’t know whether he was awarded gallantry medals. Could someone advise please, the easiest way to find a record for gallantry medals. I have had a look on the London Gazette but not been able to find anything as yet and I would really like to find if he was awarded any gallantry medals as my uncle would be really pleased to find out.

Any Gallantry medals should be in the London Gazette, but the site is difficult to search! What was his name and number?

His name was Alfred Lawless and his regiment number was 21534.

Sorry, couldn't see anything. If he went on to serve in WW2, records of Recommendations for Honours and Awards can be downloaded from the documentsonline site

Thanks very much for looking, it is very much appreciated. My uncle told me that Alfred died in 1931. Anyway at least I was able to find a record of the campaign medals for him.
