Afternoon all

I am currently half way through my free 3 month Ancestry membership (acquired with FTM) and having a ball! Just wish I could take up full membership when my freebie finishes (unfortunately OH studies bank statements so I don't think I'd get away with it!!).

I wondered if anyone could give me some advice on the following: -

1. Will I still be able to access my tree when my membershp finishes?
2. Will I be able to make amendments to it?
3. How easy is it to export my Ancestry tree to my FTM programme and will it copy all the records etc?
4. Can I export my Ancestry tree into GR or will it make a mess of it?

Many thanks for any help people can give with this and sorry if it's dead obvious to the computer boffins amongst you.

Best of luck to all with research

Miriam

Miriam

I have just cancelled the renewal of my Ancestry subscription and the page that came up said that I would still be able to view my tree and continue to add to it.

I am not sure if this means I will still be able to export.

As a member, you can export your Ancestry tree as a Gedcom file to your computer and and then import it into any family tree program, including into GR.

BUT I found when I exported my Ancestry tree to my family tree program, it "scrambled" a lot of names, mainly where I had alternative names, ie it renamed families with the mother's maiden name.

Thanks Potty. Was it hard to sort? I only ask because I haven't even started putting my tree onto FTM yet (not enough hours in the day!!!) and wondered if I could cheat with the Ancestry one.

Thanks for your advice
