My Ancestry sub is due for renewal soon. At present I have the basic Essentials Membership. Is it worth upgrading to Premium Membership - apparently this gives access to parish and probate records - I wonder if anyone has any experience of how good this access is?

Thanks. Janet

No.

It is an lot of extra money which gives access to very limited records, most of which can be found for free on the IGI Family Search Site.

I renewed recently and could have saved myself £30 or so.

Yup, or even £24

If you want the World edition check the prices on:

Ancestry.co.uk £155.40
ancestry.com $300 or £205
ancestry.com.au $300 AU or £131
ancestry.fr. 200 Euros or £171

There are probably some other countries too.

They are all different.

You can save a bit more money by re-joining via a cashback site. Try www.rpoints.com. Also, if you don't immedaitely renew, then you may well receive an e-mail from Ancestry after a little while with a good offer to rejoin! Go via the cashback site and save even more! Mungo

I cancelled my 14 day free trial today. I had been frantically looking at censuses during much of the time I had it, and copying images to my computer (not illegal I hope). I found 3 or 4 interesting things. I would have loved to have continued with the membership but I am also a superannuitant and my OH takes up a lot of my time with his deteriorating brain. Although if I had a sub I would not have to try to do as much as I can in the shortest possible time.
Huia.
