From the NA site..................

At Ancestry.co.uk, you can download the following British Army First World War records for a fee:

Pension records (catalogue reference series WO 364)

Service records for those killed in, or demobilised after, the war (series WO 363)

Please note, the release of WO 363 is ongoing; surnames A-H are currently available. However, there is only about a 25 per cent chance of finding a soldier's service record in WO 363, as most of these were destroyed by bombing in 1940. The records that do remain are known as the 'burnt documents'. For further information, check our research guides.

You could try the site for his regiment. I got service records from the Grenadier Guards which were not on ancestry. However I would point out that it cost me £30. Just depends how much you want to see his records.

I haven't been able to find anything for my g-grandad for WW1. Someone with the same name was on ancestry but now I have looked at service records it is not him. Very disappointing!

nothing to do with being killed in action,

Only about one third of ww1 records survive, two thirds were distroyed in a fire in ww2

ww1 army records that survive are at the national archives

Christina I have cut and pasted this thread for you may be of interest

http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards.asp?wci=thread&tk=1103577

I know this is about WW2 but I ordered my grandfathers records and they showed WW1 and 2 also.

Anyway if you cut and paste this it may be useful and you could always ring the phone number and listed and ask for information.

Regards Paula

i cant find WW1 service records on ancestry for someone, is this because he was killed in action in 1918 so the records would be somewhere else or should i keep looking
