Hi i have got find my past explorer package which is quite good & i am doing 6 lines in my tree. there is a free site at www.familysearch.org which you can get b.m.d & even christenings & sometimes you get the whole date. they don't always come up trumps but most of the time they do & you can even find parents of parents on this site. but you see even if you do get a package you will always need to use another site at some point.
have fun doing your tree
regards Tracey

Hi Clive,

Thanks a lot for your reply. Your advice makes good sense and I shall take it on board in order to find out more about these sites.

Thank you very much for your help.

Kind regards

Perhaps you should use your favourite search engine to see what sort of chatter there is about the various sites. If it is negative you will certainly find out about it quickly. If not, I suppose it becomes a question of economics. If you plan to buy, for example, 20 certificates that will cost you you £140. If these sites offer a similar level of information for a lot less then they may represent better value.

I have only come across one such site and they are carrying out a free co-operation project with Tunbridge Wells Borough Council. There was a certain amount of information available but key parts were blocked out such as informants and cause of death. Probably only useful then if you only want date and place of death and date and place of burial.

Just a quick query which I am hoping someone can please help me with as I'm new to researching my family tree and still learning.

I have noticed their are websites which offer access to online details regarding peoples deaths, funerals, cemetery records and obituaries etc etc when you pay a fee to join up.

Are these sites just a con, best avoided and is it preferable to get information by ordering death certificates?

Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Many thanks in advance.
